Sustainable industry collaboration between Indorama Ventures, DyeCoo and STOLL, a brand of the KARL MAYER GROUP

EASY MASK is a collaborative initiative between Indorama Ventures, DyeCoo and STOLL to produce a fashionable mask with a sustainable mind-set throughout the whole production process - starting from the yarn production and followed by the dyeing, design and production.

EASY MASK is made from Deja™ 100% post-consumer recycled polyester by In­dorama and dyed with DyeCoo’s super­critical carbon dioxide technology with Corangar dyes from Colourtex, with­out using water or process chemicals, while reclaiming CO2 in a closed-loop pro­cess. Stoll’s state-of-the-art knitting tech­nology further boosts the sustainability of the product with its 3D shape knitting, which results in less than 1% waste and offers the possibility of local production.

Deja™ - recycled polyester

EASY MASK is made from Deja™ - the sustainable recycled polyester brand from Indorama Ventures. The polyester performance yarn is made from 100% post-consumer recycled PET bottles and can be used for a multitude of home and apparel applications. The yarn is independently certified and traceable, with full transparency across raw material and processes including GRS, Ecomark, RCS, Oeko-Tex 100 and Reach.


Sustainability at each step

EASY Mask follows sustainable principles at each step of the product development.

The Deja™ yarn is made from locally sourced 100% post-consumer rPET . It can be used for diverse home and apparel applications while offering a low-carbon footprint and closed loop solution.  

DyeCoo’s Carbon Dioxide technology utilizes supercritical CO2 and through this process eliminates water from the dyeing process in a closed loop dyeing system. DyeCoo is the world’s first commercial supplier of water-free and process-chemical free dyeing system for polyester textiles. Using CO2 dyeing eliminates the use of water, reduces energy consumption, eliminate chemical usage and is also cost effective.

STOLL’s seamless production methodavoids cut & sew and waste material whilst offering customized on-demand production to neglect surpluses of products. The mask can be used repetitively as it can be cleaned on a 60 degree wash. Additionally, the mask can easily be disassembled and mask components can be re-used.

Innovative CO2 Dyeing

DyeCoo’s supercritical Carbon Dioxide dyeing technology can dye yarns or fabric rolls in a closed-loop process without using water and process chemicals or producing any wastewater.

By only using the pure non-toxic Corangar dyestuff from Colourtex in combination with sc-CO2 that is reclaimed for 95% in the machine, textile dyeing has less environmental impact compared to traditional dyeing technologies. As Carbon Dioxide has the same quality every day and over the whole world the technology is reliable and reproducible.

3D Knitting

EASY MASK is a fresh approach to reinterpret a traditional medical facemask from a design perspective. It is a 3D knitted and playful kinetic object that expands and collapses easily. It is simple to use and comfortable to wear; be it over the face or around the neck.

The design approach allows customization, on-demand production and cuts production waste below 1 %. The mask can easily be disassembled and mask components can be re-used. A built in ventilation increases breathability. It does not protect the wearer from infection, but limits the spread of viruses.

Flexible Production

STOLL’s seamless production method avoids cut & sew and cuts waste material to below 1%.  The high degree of automation allows on-demand production and reduces surplus production.

The mask is knitted on a STOLL CMS 530 HP B E 7.2 machine, but can be also knitted on other types of STOLL machines. This allows for flexible local production independent of the machine park.
