SHIFT – The Microfactory by VORN opens

STOLL - Providing innovative knitting technology for sustainable fashion production

With pride, STOLL participated in the grand opening of SHIFT – The Microfactory by VORN – The Berlin Fashion Hub last Thursday, March 13, 2025. This pioneering platform brings together academics, brands, research institutes, startups, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to collaboratively develop innovative solutions for a more sustainable and ethically responsible fashion industry.

The overarching goal of SHIFT – The Microfactory is to create a fashion industry with a positive environmental and social impact. To achieve this, the Pixel-to-Product microfactory provides state-of-the-art hardware and software solutions, enabling the realization and testing of promising concepts, products, and processes in physical, digital, or hybrid form.

The planning of the microfactory began in 2023 with a broad feasibility study, which attracted partners such as STOLL, ito ito, and Clo3D. These partners play a crucial role in the implementation and operation of SHIFT. "SHIFT is creating a space where groundbreaking ideas become scalable, industrial reality. For ito ito, it is a unique opportunity to contribute our automation technologies and actively shape the textile value chains of tomorrow," says Friederike Pfeffer, Co-CEO of ito ito.

With advanced knitting technology, 3D design and automation software for on-demand production, and a strong focus on the circular economy, SHIFT is setting new standards for the fashion industry.

STOLL has contributed to this initiative by providing three high-tech ADF machines, along with the digital solutions from the CREATE family, PPS, and Autocreate for the project.

The innovative machine technology not only ensures the highest precision and efficiency but also sets new standards in ecological responsibility and sustainability. Through intelligent process networking, resource-efficient production is enabled, opening up completely new possibilities in the textile value chain.
